Could this be Dutch Delft?

    Hi folks,

I picked up a box of pottery (super cheap!) and found this poor old plate at the very bottom... I thought at first it was missing the broken pieces but they were rattling around inside a vase. It's 99% complete and has old staple repairs, but if put back together properly it's actually a lovely thing. I think it could be early Dutch Delft but I'm not entirely sure... what do you all think? Thanks for taking a look!

To answer that, yes, though usually English/British deflt uses a small "d" or probably more correctly is called delftware. Tin glazed items might also be called faience or majolica/maiolica depending on their country of origin.

That looks like an 18th century tin-glazed (Delft) pancake plate, so called because it lacks a footrim.

I think the artists and technology just crossed the North Sea way back when. Things called "Delft" should have come from Delft but it's used more broadly for the style. Hard to buck common usage.

It does sound redundant saying Dutch Delft, doesn't it? LOL I'm so used to using the term to differentiate between Delft & British Delftware... That's going to make me smile every time I say it now.

Thanks for the replies. The pancake plate info is great! I have learned something new today! Fab.
