Gentlemans Chair ?

    Anyone have any idea of dates for this style of chair ? also any idea of value ?

    If I were guessing I'd say 1880-something with Eastlake influences and a much later upholstery job. I'd call that part 1980s. On this side of the Atlantic, we're lucky to give this sort of thing away these days.

    1880 is about right. Transitional piece between Renaissance Revival and Eastlake styles. Anything that needs upholstery has very little value. If you can get this cleaned to the point where most would think it is serviceable, you might find a buyer. Value is dependent on location and selling venue. Also, those stripes won't appeal to most. Here in my semi-rural Midwest location, I would think under $150.00 at retail and you might have to discount from there to entice a buyer. You might do better in larger cities. Auction and other wholesale venues won't fare as well.

    I think the original fabric was probably a much darker velvet, maybe a dark green. Brad's right about the stripe; it doesn't do the chair any favors, even cleaned. No clue what the exact price would be in the UK, but I don't think Victorian pieces like this are selling for high prices there either at the moment.
