Can't put a date on this. Any thoughts? Clasp is marked Sterling. Choker length or a bit longer. This is so diminutive in the hand, the first thing you notice. It has hundreds of rhinestones and barely weighs anything.

At first glance I thought it was newer. But once in the hand, and looking more closely, it seemed to have some genuine age. (At the same sale I got a Saphiret cross. Stay tuned for a post on that one..)

Each rhinestone has a round (looks like sterling) setting that sort of rings around the rhinestone leaving the pointed end of the rhinestone out the back. (See last photo for close up of a single rhinestone. Disregard green reflection on that last photo, was from something else.)

Any idea of age or origin? Thanks.

by the way simple rings are used to join the stones, I'd venture 1970's circa...

I would check carefully for a "ALE" mark as well as a 925 (or S 925 mark if newer). It looks like a Pandora piece.

This is an Edwardian necklace, very common in that time frame. I have matching earrings in front of me on my desk.
It's commonly called a collet necklace because of the settings.

Here's a quick picture of the earrings. Now that I am looking at them I see they have the square stone but they made these in all round stone, with some square, like these, and all other stone shapes as well.
I've had many variations over the years. collet.jpg

    Calico nailed them! Good work!

Lucille, I just wanted to comment on how stunning this collet is. I especially like how the center rhinestone is set above the rest. This will look great on a young lady going to prom!

I wonder if that was an area of repair? There are 5 dangles to the right of it and 6 to the left, so it's not actually in the center. Looks like it may have come apart there and was reattached with wrong orientation?

Thank you antidiem, once you've handled enough of them you can ID them in your sleep.
These are also desired by brides for a vintage theme wedding.

I don't see evidence of a repair. It could be that a link opened and one dangle fell off or it might have escaped the maker like that.

I think it left the manufacturer that way, I don't see any evidence of a repair either and the center stone is horizontally mounted, while the side dangles are mounted at an angle.

Yeah, I didn't mean a repair to a piece that actually broke, just that the one dangle is mounted differently than the others and wondering why that that was. Nice necklace and earrings; they would go great together!

Totally agree on Edwardian. Lovely thing: think Queen Alexandra. There's another term for those we use, but my brain has lost it.

Just got in, thank you for all of the responses. :):):)

Appreciate the ID, and observations and Calico, thank you for posting a photo of your earrings. It makes sense age-wise. In the hand you can tell this is not an every day piece. Too much work in it and almost paper thin in a way. I think a sneeze could rip it in two pieces, it is that delicate. And yes, would be fabulous for a bride, sort of reserved and flashy at the same time.

On other news, I'm going to be posting my saphiret cross later today (same former owner) would love to get thoughts on that.
