900 silver fineness means an older piece. When I was in Peru in the early 70s they sold only 925, sterling silver.

The central figure is actually from a pre-Columbian site in Bolivia, the 'Gateway of the Sun' in Tiahuanaco on Lake Titicaca. Because of the rays around its head it is thought to represent the Sun God. The gateway dates from ca 800 AD.
The lake is on the border of Peru and Bolivia, and remnants of the Tiwanaku culture are to be found in both countries. Tiwanaku influenced later cultures like the Inca.
