Hello and thanks for letting me on your forum. I wonder of anyone has any idea what this is ? It belonged to my Gt Grandmother.

AbbyRose, could you give us the dimensions?
It is gorgeous, btw. It still has a bit of Art Nouveau in the design, but is slightly younger. Only slightly though. The Czech costume jewellery makers held on to some earlier styles. And rightly so, in this case.

It is best to post photos full image, so everyone can see:

Looks like half of a belt buckle. What size is it?

It's lovely and has elements of Art Nouveau, like AJ mentioned, but newer than that age of style. Without knowing the size, it kind of looks like a shoe buckle, or half of a small belt buckle, as Holly mentioned.

1930s Czech/Bohemian. It's most likely to be a dress clip with the clip missing, it's typical of the shape. Belt buckles had an integrated slot or hok if that makes sense.

Certainly a dress clip, one of a pair.

They made narrow dress belt buckles, ornamental naturally, like this back in the 30s. This is half of one. Too bad we don't have the other half or it could go right back to work.

I also think it could be half a buckle. But it is beautiful as decoration for anything, really.

I've made half buckles into pendants before. Some are easier to mess with than others.

Agree. 1930s. Half of jeweled belt buckle.

...and I want that dress! Or would if it weren't green and I could fit into it. (green hates me and wants me dead)

It's lovely, isn't it? And such a flattering design for every body. But really bothers me how sloppily styled the belt was for photograph. Should sit tightly at waist, not hang loosely below.

It probably did, but stuff stretches or changes with age, and the mannequin may be a different shape than the original wearer.

I think the fixings are al wrong for a belt buckle.

Actually they're dead on for an ornamental one. I've had Czech buckles before just meant for pretty, and this is just like them. The loop on the back is all wrong for something to be sewn onto an item of clothing.
