I am going through some art that I have never done anything with and could use some input on a couple block prints.

This one seems to have some good age to it. It is signed in pencil in the image and is very hard to see. I have included a pic of the signature and two enhanced versions. I have done a reverse image search on this to no avail. Unless we can figure out who the artist is from the signature, I will probably never attribute it. I have an idea of what I think it reads but it has not led me anywhere. Thanks much!

I see "Glensen" but sure that's not right.

    You got it! The signature is a match. I kept seeing a co-joined C & H for C. Hensen. I was coming around to Jensen but, then, was seeing a co-joined C & F for C. F. Jensen.

I have had this for at least 10 years and probably for the first 5 never saw any signature at all. At some point I wrote on the folder C. Hensen with a question mark and put it away for several more years. It helps to have some fresh eyes and I am glad not to have sold this short in the meantime. Thanks!

It's hard to find much mention of Jensen's prints online - perhaps they tend to go unrecognised because of the obscure signature - but I did find this passing mention in a review of an exhibition in Toledo in 1920: "Excellent block prints of Provincetown
subjects by George Jensen... were also shown".

    Architrave,

Most excellent sleuthing, indeed! I found no mention of prints by Jensen at all. What you found puts this block print and its subject matter right in context with that exhibit. I don't think I could ask for any better provenance. Thanks!
