Yes, this is odd and I've noted it before but no MODs have ever referenced the issue but I keep noting it.
I've tried turning them and faking it out but that may or may not work and even if it does then the picture is out of the original order.

 

The Boyd's banners aren't worth much on eBidet and someone has probably lost their mind asking $50 for one. I think I paid about $1.65.

I am sure Brad will tell you NOT to decal your vintage wooden objects. But somebody else will- nice finds, King!

Since I couldn't sleep (my 90 year-old uncle is not doing well), I threw on clothes and took off for the local church sale. It starts at 9:00 a.m., and I got there by 9:15 a.m., practically over by our area's standards.

These are just some of the things I found, so it was worth going

Then there was this Art Nouveau sterling dragon pendant (second one of these I have found- RL is asking $165 for one, one has sold for $200 there)



Then there were these Honora sterling dangly earrings


And my favorite thing was this slip-over-your-head strand of baroque? freshwater? knotted pearls

I haven't uploaded the costume and sterling yet..... maybe tomorrow.

And I was bored so I drove to an antique mall having a sale....20% off. I know this is probably Victorian. The sides have a grape motif, the clusters of grapes have worn down over the years. I believe these are mine cut diamonds, but what would the squarish/rectangularish shape be called? I don't think they are cushion cut.... I pick up these pieces when I can get them at retail sterling prices....

On the way home, I stopped at a thrift shop. Most of the ladies are very nice, but there is one who is not. The one who is not, of course, was going through a bag of jewelry, and she had a tray tagged. I asked if I could see it, she grudgingly let me look. Nothing for me there.... so I looked around while she continued tagging. She had another tray tagged, and I asked if I could see it, and she barked "NO!" while starting to whisper to a co-worker, looking over her shoulder at me. Okay, but before I left, I saw a tray on the counter I missed.... and in it were these for $2- 14k Hawaiian black coral earrings. Nah Nah.

Thanks.... I put the things on a plain white paper plate and shoot on the front or back porch in slight shade.... the diamond ring was shot inside by a window with afternoon sun. All done on a Galaxy Samsung 4 (which I am getting rid of next week.)

I like the ring, probably because the photograph makes the diamonds look like sapphiret glass.(LOL) I hit an estate sale this weekend, only to find out that an antique dealer had been allowed in before the sale was even advertised. He bought everything worth buying. I spent ... five bucks. There was some nice cut glass and 30s porcelain bits, but those aren't for me. No market. Among the things I found only one is worth showing. Not worth much in dollars, but it's cool. Printed cross stitch, but it's not the usual ugly flowers.

Selling?

 

Where we are, almost all estate sellers give make you wait in line. Some give out numbers. What happened to you happened to me this summer. One of the estate sellers posted on estatesales.net they were offering jewelry, but most don't post pictures. So an antique dealer called them, and they told them what kind and how much jewelry they had. The antique dealer showed up an hour before the sale and bought almost all of the jewelry for $200. And he missed some sterling and 14k....so imagine what he left with.

 

Another little trick they do here some have you place a "bid" in writing on an item. At the last day, when everything goes half-off, if you are the highest bid over half-priced, you get the item. I was at a sale when things just went half-priced (some start it at noon or later on the last day), and the estate sale person snapped up a set of MOP sterling knives before anyone could look at them and called their friend to say they had won the "bid."

 

Which item? I am not selling the ring, and that is a close-up shot...I would say the diamond cluster area is about 3/4" by 1/2" wide.

Ack. The worst is knowing the stuff WAS there, but finding out you never had a chance at it. In this case the only piece left was a watch band that looked like used goldtone. One local dealer lots up all the jewelry in his sales and sells all for one money, whether it's worth money or not. And then overprices it as often as not. He just hates dealing with it.

I was thinking of just throwing the Statue on the giveaway page. Think I'll get any takers?

Figured as much. (LOL) Those embroideries don't sell for beans but at least I can just throw it in a mailer and out she goes.

 

I love embroidered linens. My grandmom used to do this..... I never had the patience or the talent. It is definitely cool!

So upload pics is so much more fun that taking down the remainder of the Christmas decorations. Here is the rest of the church sale.
Even though this is not vintage, I fell in love with it. This is the back.... it opens up into a locket. It is a rose gold/coppery tone.

Good week of picking here. Things are from the thrift stores unless mentioned otherwise.

First here are the lamp shades that were on the pair of pseudo-French classical figural lamps I showed awhile back. Totally did not go with the lamps but the reason for buying them. I will either sell on their own or find a project for them.



This waterfall nightstand was $7.50. It has veneer loss on the top. I will probably paint portions and leave the door and other portions natural. I will replace the knob since the folks here would not appreciate that it is celluloid. I can sell it separately on ebay.



Cake stand is not old but there is money to be made on it as a $6.00 purchase.


The larger (18" square) iron piece was $4.00. The medium one is part of a pair at $3.00 each. The two small ones were $1.50 each. Again, not old but money to be made



This 12" piece of petrified wood was $6.00. It is going in my personal collection.



The pair of Dutch repousse' brass plates were $ .59 each. The Chinese enamel on brass silent butler was $7.00.



The silverplate English mustard pot with blue glass liner and spoon was a buck. The sterling spoon came from my group shop where I found it mixed among silverplate for a buck.


This chrome tray with bakelite handle also came from my group shop where one of the dealers was clearing out inventory at 75% off. Paid $3.00 for it. Ironically, I had considered buying it when it was full price.



I am not sure if this little Royal Winton pot with underplate is supposed to have a lid or is a little planter. Either way, it was a sweet buy at a buck. Love the spider webs!



Saved the best for last. This large (10" dia.) Weller Clinton jardiniere was $10.00. To top it off, it is in great condition.

 

Brad, I love that nightstand and the spider web piece! Look at your cake stand- I believe you can invert the top putting the knob in the depression at the center bottom of the stand to form a bowl. I had one of these.
