Purchased four items. One, I picked up. The next, they broke before it was delivered, the third arrived shattered because it poorly packed, and finally, the last was sent to the wrong address, in another state.

They charged my credit card 110.00 on a 5.00 item I did not buy. They also set up your account as a recurring billing agreement so they can charge your account without your authorization. Had to file a dispute with my bank. My banker explained to me the reason these companies charge extremely high shipping charges is because you can not dispute shipping charges. Just the amount of the actual item.

Read all the fine print in all their disclaimers before buying or setting up an account with them.
They charged my bank card $110.00 for a $5.00 item I did not buy. I filed a dispute on the transaction with my bank. My bank told me they had set the account up as a recurring billing agreement that authorizes them to charge your account, at any time, without any action from you. They also told me the reason these types of companies charge such high shipping charges ($104.00) is because if you dispute the transaction you can only dispute the actual item amount and not the shipping charge. They are crooks.

Hi, I am new here. I have a fairly large number of things to sell from my home, mainly furniture and art, some dishes etc. I found this site after googling EBTH. Doesn't sound like a good way to go. What is a better option? I have no idea what to do and don't have the time/inclination to sell everything myself on Craigslist, EBay, etc.

    Thanks!

    Estate sale ?
If you don't have the time or inclination to sell it yourself, you'll have to pay someone to do it for you......and live with the results.

It really will depend on where you are located & the items you are looking to sell. You may want to start by taking some photos of your items & contacting various locations around you. I would look into consignment shops, auction houses & antique shops that do consignment sales. You may have to use a combination of locations to get the best deals.

There are some small companies that will operate the estate sale out of your home. It is usually multiple days. They arrange the items for simple display and price. They can be pretty aggressive in getting a top price on items.

The reason I did not suggest an estate sale company is because most of them that I am familiar with do whole house sales. However, I got the impression that the OP was just interested in selling just misc. items that they no longer had any use for or were replacing with other items.

You have to be VERY CAREFUL with EBTH... so good deals and a LOT of bad. RESEARCH is needed for each buy. That said, EBTH has "shipping issues"....if you have fragile collectables shipped and they're damaged...you won't get much. BIG CAUTION here.....

Thank you so much for pointing this link out to me, Figtree!

Thank everyone here for sharing your experiences.

I won't bother contacting them. Ebay is difficult enough..

I have no need to defend this outfit, but I did apply for a job with them and when I spoke of my experience they were very impressed and pointed out the problems they have with the current franchisees, so they are aware of the problems and are working to correct them.

I did not accept a position with them for other, personal reasons............one of which was the lack of transportation and my health.

I may HAVE to! To clear this place out if things don't improve on the income front soon. If I get a 60 day notice, I'll have no choice:(:wideyed:

Fortunately, I have not heard of many sellers who were terribly disappointed, so..........

I used EBTH to sell the contents of my home. I cannot warn people enough if they have items of value not to use this company. Seller is responsible to ensure their items during the auction process. EBTH changed auction locations and time of auction without consulting. They had over 38 listing errors when the auction went live which I policed and worked every day of the sale to correct. The site crashed numerous times for long periods including the last day of the sale. Sale date changed to the week of Labor Day which I protested fully and told not to worry, results were very poor. Items were damaged and never reported to me. This did not allow me to claim the damaged pieces to my insurance. EBTH refused to be responsible for the damages and base reimbursement on any auction the choose, 5500 piece they offered 100 dollars, this is a real situation. They returned a piece of somebody else's merchandise to me. I reported this and returned it to them. Again if this went missing and this was part of a Gio Ponti table worth 8,000 dollars they would repay 100 dollars maybe based on a comparable even though they lost the piece.

In short don't even think of using this company. For heir cut of 38 percent there as professional companies who know how to respect and handle fine items of their clients, and if something gets damaged in their care handle it like professionals.

I have now had my second bad experience involving EBTH and shipping. And this may well be my last. The first item, which was a great win, simply "disappeared." They tell you you will have to wait 6-8 weeks for the "blanket wrap" shipping, that is exactly what I did. It was a very large framed special edition photograph. Then when my order was still showing as "processing" -- but it had not arrived after 8 weeks, I sent them another note. This time they told me they could not find the item. They refunded my money, but I was not very happy. Now, this week, they are showing a shipment to me of a lamp I purchased as complete. The box just arrived. Only parts of the lamp are in it. So I just sent a note to them asking them where the rest of it is. Again, this was a good auction grab and I am going to be very pissed if they come back and tell me that they simply don't know what happened to the other pieces.

I truely think they loose items frequently. As I posted as a seller it took them months to return items to me. When they were still promising they were sending a lamp back to me I looked at my dashboard and saw they sold the base of the lamp a month prior to me diacovering it. All the time they were saying it was being packed and was on is way. I notified my contact and told him I saw they sold the base, he couldn't believe it. Somehow they got the base back and eventually got it to me. They sold it for a dollar, was a 5500 dollar lamp. Was returned damaged and missing pieces. They offered 100.00 compensation. They sent me a part to somebody else's merchandise which I reported and returned. A rug of mine is still in limbo. EBTH I think was good when it started as an idea. Nobody's within EBTH coordinates or is in charge it seems. Items go missing, get damaged, are listed with incorrect descriptions, randomly grouped or sets broken, and all at clients expense with no caring ever shown by EBTH.
