PLEASE HELP US IDENTIFY OUR PAINTING

WE HAVE AN OLD ANTIQUE OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS

UNE NICHE D'ECOLIER

 

Welcome, Christopher. I'm pretty sure this is not a oil painting on canvas. Looks much more like a print - an old one for sure, and with the title French, but not an oil painting. It may have been a page in a book as well, but that is not a certainty. The additional pictures I Need Help has requested might help.

 

Why is saved from an old 18th century house in slatington PA it was a fireplace cover it Was originally on old hand forged nails this is all that was salvageable

 

Can anybody help identify the artist When we were guessing we originally came up with the 1st name looking like Lester or Le... something else

 

There is a listing on this 1857 e-book page which lists a lithograph titled Une Niche D'Ecolier being one of 16 plates contained within a book titled Amours Champetre. It's found under Genre in the right hand column.

We need someone who reads French better than I can and understands printing terminology to see if the artist of this work is listed there and not just the printer.

The name is in the bottom right hand corner just as the picture shows

No, I only see the name of the print in the lower center, perhaps a photo of the signature has not yet been posted? @Christopher Abraham ?

I can't see a photo with the signature either?

 

Welcome, Christopher. You posted the photos of the signature in Media, but people don't generally look there. It is always best to post it in the thread.
I know, first threads aren't easy.

@Aquitaine can you work your magic on this?
