I was trying to decide which forum this belongs in and figured this one is just about the best choice. This was sold a s Russian Coffee Urn at a local auction. Therefore I assume it is. I think some may call it a Samovar? By the style of power cord I'm thinking 1930-40s. I plugged it in but never felt it heating up but I really didn't leave it plugged up very long. I was wondering, with the vast knowledge here, if anyone is able to decipher the language. Thank you.

We had a popcorn popper my parents must have bought in the 50s with a detachable cord very much like that.

For the language, once again, @Figtree3

    Hi Carl!

    I haven't a clue, but that's the prettiest Samovar I've ever seen!

Will be watching along with you for answers!:cat:

Carl yours would not have had the top venting piece. I'm not sure it would have been called a Samovar, but maybe.

My parents were gifted a waffle iron with a detachable cord like that in 1949 for a wedding gift. So late 40s to 50s seems correct.

Sorry, *crs*...it appears I am being stalked. Again, asking a question has provoked comments about me.

    Hello *crc*
The item you have is a modern electrical samovar made in Russia. The letter on it means the title of the item VOLZHANIN (means the one that belongs to Volga river area). Volga is the most famous Russian river mentioned in different poems, stories, novels, etc. The price of such samovar depends on its capacity and decorative details. Average price US $80-90.

Thank you for this great info Natasha.
I think maybe I should fill this up with water to determine capacity.
The body is about 7 1/4" diameter

Hello Natasha!:) I have been thinking of you during this corona/covid19 period. How have you been, and how is the situation in Ukraine?

    Thank you for intervening, Natasha.
I see the example you posted is like the one I posted. But now we ALL know that Carl's is electric and that the top portion is not needed. So glad that you were not given the same treatment as me;)
    Good Find!

Glad you are still here, Any Jewelry. I have been quiet for a long time trying to save my art business during this covid19 period. Unfortunately, this is not a good time for people to buy art. In comparison with other countries the situation in Ukraine is not critical. The authorities introduced quaranteen very early when there were just about 100 cases. Today we have about 8600 cases with 210 lethal. The quaranteen is prolonged until May 11. But besides covid19 we have war in the east, fires in Chernobyl area, fires around Kyiv (you can see photos in the internet). Too much for coincidents...

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

It's good to see you posting, @Natasha -- I've been wondering about you.

And also I wasn't needed to translate. Even better to have a native speaker to do it!

@Natasha I should have looked on the bottom. These numbers and letters are present. Ty1-01-0293-73 C5-3/1 1993r 3_(diamond mark with arrow) 220B(squiggly line) 1kBt. If 1993 is the date then why would it have a 1950s power cord? [IMG]

May be why it didn't heat for you. You need a power converter for 220.
