Lucille I initially looked at the listing and thought it very reasonable. I was surprised nobody had snapped it up. I guess you decided to wait for a higher price now?

It hasn't been all that long since I started allowing myself to buy silver. I love mismatched pieces. I do have a matched set of a pattern I really like but I have lots of beautiful pieces that I love all mixed up together.

I'd prefer no mono but have lots that do have them. My thoughts about melting, I will use and pass down any silver my kids might want provided I don't need the money. If I do then it will be sold or melted based on the time and ability I have to deal with it.

I hate to think of beautiful silver being melted but I can't really fault anyone if that's what they need to do to get by. Who knows, maybe it will come back in its second life as something even more lovely or useful:)

Overall they probably do, but monograms will sell as well.
Some people even look for items with their monogram.

It takes a while for something specific to sell. I had a piece on Ebay for over 5 months and thought that it would never sell, it was a pretty expensive piece of glass but fairly priced. Then one day it was bought and paid for, for the full ask. Specific things take a while. It is a really lovely fork and I would not sell it to someone if I suspected it was going to be melted, but I respect that others do not feel that way.

I had a customer who would buy any ornate sterling teaspoon with a single initial and kept a stash of them to gift her friends and family when the occasion arose.
I thought that was a charming, thoughtful gift idea.

OT...I am new to this site and need help from anyone who would tell me how to "like" a comment by another poster. Not tech savvy at all and haven't been able to figure out the mechanics of a "like".

What a cute idea with the single initial monogrammed sterling items for gifts!

Sandra, welcome to the site. On my computer the "like" option shows on the bottom right of a comment. Just click on it, you need to be logged in for it to register. Perhaps this shows differently on a phone, not sure. Check bottom right for a start.

Thank you Lucille for the kind welcome and advice. I am working from my laptop and all I have in lower right hand corner is #... +quote reply. I try not to click on "quote" as I don't want to be redundant, but any time I click reply, I get the comment I am replying to quoted.
When I click on the site, my name shows up in "members online now" and I just assumed I was logged in. I have never logged out, maybe I should try that and when I log in again the "like" button will show. Thanks again from a tech ninny.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The word "Like" is supposed to be where you are seeing the #... If that is a clickable link for you, try clicking on it and see what happens.

Also, the idea of logging out and logging back in is a good one. You can also try refreshing the page while you are looking at the site.

Thanks for trying to help Figtree3, I tried to log in and out to no avail.
The # symbol takes me to permalink, which leads me to twitter, facebook etc. none of which I subscribe to. I'll just muddle along until the g'kids come over and help me muddle through this. In the meantime, I hope no one gets the impression I am unappreciative of the information and knowledge I have gleaned from these posts.

This probably won't help... I notice that bottom right of my own post I have the "#" symbol where the like would be. If I click on that (again, on my own post) it brings me to permalink, etc. But posts from others have the "like" lower right that I can click on.

This is on my system at least. No idea if that helps at all. Best of luck.

That's a good point, Lucille. You can't "Like" your own post. ;)

Very nice fork, Lucille....I buy flatware to use in my jewelry and collect pieces also. Pieces that are damaged, common or worn beyond recognition go into my melt pile. Your fork is in near new condition and should bring at least $25 when the right person sees it. The scrap market is very consistent as to the value of sterling silver in any form, 85% of spot price is the norm.
Using that formula the scrap value of your fork @46.7 grams would on this day, 1/16/2017, be...Spot = $16.87 per troy ounce, 31.1 grams per ounce troy=.54 cents per gram x 85%=.46 cents per gram. That puts the scrap value at $21.48.
Scrap buyers will also formulate shipping costs in their offer. Jewelry items and sterling tableware can bring higher prices if the buyer sees more value in resale.
