Should I take off the backing?

Your pictures don't enlarge and I assume someone who knows their stitches will want to get a closer view.

But while I'm at it, is that a signature to the right of the upper leg of the right hand bird?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The embroidery looks machine done to me.

And, I really do like this!

It's a little hard to tell but it looks to be long stitch in wool, I'm thinking maybe 1950's.

I'm seeing cotton embroidery floss, but the same era. The pattern was stamped onto the fabric and some woman with more time than good options sat there and stitched the thing with her radio or TV on. The kits were sold in dime stores, department stores, and in catalogues. My grandmother still got one full of "old lady crafts" well into the 70s.

Should I try to remove the backing or no need?

What browser are you using, Bake? They enlarge slightly for me when they are clicked using Firefox. Also if I right mouse click and select "View Image," I can then enlarge them more by holding down the "Ctrl" key and rolling the mouse wheel back and forth.

With the Chrome browser you can right click an image and select "Open Image in New Tab" then enlarge it by holding down the "CTRL" key and rolling the mouse wheel.

I suspect IE lacks some of these options?

I'm really not seeing a hand crafted item. I think it's an Asian import from the 60s
