...that some idjut at Savers thought a Victorian bit of nice brasswork was only worth six bucks.(LOL) Not that it's a bad thing for us, mind.

 

Ah. I thought it might have something to do with the price, but also wondered about the "Unique."

Thanks for the update on Italy, Bear, I was there in 1996.... want to go back. At the time, the pollution was bad, but maybe like our country, they saw the writing on the wall and cleaned it up- wise. The smoking was very bad at that time, good to know it is not common in the restaurants because the food is so very excellent everywhere there.

 

Today I found...snow. And more snow.

 

Yeah, I think it just stopped snowing here in south Jersey, about 8 inches of powdery snow here, too. I was trapped inside so I worked on restoring this vintage black cashmere coat.

I had to fix both side slash pockets (ripped up on the tops), fix an inside hidden snap (one needs replacement or removal, half the snap portion is gone), I sewed the inside pockets (holes in them), part of the hem was coming undone, and I stitched the inside cashmere label back in (it was missing stitches on one side, hanging off.)

Then I removed the old buttons (one of the four was missing from the coat, so I bought new Italian buttons.) I had to redo one button, I sewed it crookedly, so the project took about three hours, but I LOVE this coat.

Old button removed- metal on top, the metal was screwed into the plastic?- I am thinking this is circa 1940s- what do you think? Button has two tones of metal.

Yeah, I am having cabin fever. Not too much goes on in the winter here, but I hit the thrifts. Today one of our big churches was having one of its winter sales (the do them November through early March), but it has been postponed due to snow. I didn't get up early enough, anyway, you have to be there at 6 a.m. to really find the goodies.

Thanks.... researching old coat styles. Not sure what decade this is....the buttons are making me think 1930s, as is the style. I can't find button images like this online. Snow googling.

 

The coat looks more like 1950s to me. I love cashmere!

 

I have a few and wearing a brand new one I got at a thrift.
Had labels still sewn on the cuff.
I only unstitched the pockets yesterday.
I may replace the buttons as they're kind of boring.

Nothing to display here, but my local CVS had all their Christmas stuff marked down to 90% off to get rid of it today. I had coupons for some of it. The pure candy run receipt shows I saved %118 .... pretty much ended up paying sales tax on the original full price. The church office is now stocked with candy for quite a while.
