When I picked this up it was BLACK. Polished up nicely. The box I'll also try to clean.

Made in England. Silver plate(?). Called an Infuser, one name I found. Any others?
I found one almost exact - same shape, size, mechanism, etc. On Etsy. The seller I hope is not here to read this, because she was bit confused. In the text she wrote such as - "This will go very well with your wardrobe, etc., etc." The only difference is her says "silver" instead of "Made in England."

The mechanism to snap the cover back on is, frankly, dangerous. If it were a bit sharper, and caught your finger, it would keep it!!! Man'O"Man. That thing SNAPS down.

Anyway. A hint on its age, please.
    TIA.

Sorry, I'm now playing with MS 10 AND NOT LIKING IT. TO PUT IT MILDLY. I tried to edit and could only eliminate one set, not two.

Thanks, Davey. I've never used one and possibly never even saw one. So had no clue. Let's hope others at least agree.

Put loose tea in, snap down, put in tea cup. Add boiling water. I'd imagine it would also work for ginger tea - no fishing the lump of raw ginger out. These are still being made in various materials.

Looking at the box, I'd say a little later, 1950s. (My dad made packaging!)

    These make lousy tea. ;)

Hence the reason we keep finding them in the packaging and in rummage/jumble sales instead of kitchen drawers? I'm more apt to use a tea bag in the microwave these days.

I actually use one to hold spices/peppercorns/cloves/bay leaves in soups & stews so a) I don't have to chase them around to get them out of the melange, and b) no wasted cheesecloth.

and YES, they are totally useless when it comes to tea....................

and yes (again) I am occasionally guilty of using Mr. Lipton by the Balls (as Gram used to say) in the nuker........

Dimensions are always appreciated. May seem obvious if one recognizes the object but how would they know whether it is a full-sized infuser or a miniature for your charm bracelet? Also, of course we want to set an example for visitors.
