I could not really do anything with the photo, but they look like ordinary printed cloth curtains to me.

 

My guess, this is at least 19th C. and the figure if I'm not mistaken is, Mahakala, wearing a garland of decapitated heads.

The only silk there was from the huge spiders.

 

As long as they feasted on the wool moths and mosquitoes, I like huge spiders.

 

This disk is very heavy and large, it is sitting on a normal sized chair. An attempt to scratch the back to see if it was copper failed, so who would make something like this in cast iron or steel.



It's sitting on a decorative Indian chair. by the way.

 

As I said before, probably Elkington and Co., same as the shield. Here is your same exact piece, only shinier...

Are they exactly the same? Af's doesn't seem to have as much detail.

 

To my eye... But I'm sure AF will be happy if you or anyone else could provide a similar or better comparable. The large diameter charger I posted above, subject's title and possible manufacturer provides just that..........a lead/starting point for research.

100 plus years of polishing?

It's pretty well ruined as a work of art.

 

here is the same detail from one polished to the copper (at least it does seem to be copper, so some scrap value there anyway) that failed to sell, estimate £200 - £400 at a sale that I almost certainly attended.
Doh, can't seem to edit it.

It sold for £120 at a later sale which I also almost certainly attended as Bonham's Knowle was my main local saleroom.

 

Af - are you in the area of Knowle? My family, I am told, came from Solihull and Kenilworth - about 375 years ago. Don't expect you knew any of them

 

I shopped for antiques in Knowle because the people had better stuff, even the charity shops were upper crust, but I live much further west; in Knowle women tend to be called Fiona, round here Tracy is more the social marker.

British children get labeled with their parent's socio-economic class by the names they get. Wayne and Darren wind up in the dock in the Magistrates Court, Richard and John staff the court, and Julius and Ivor are the magistrates on the bench.

That image clearly shows better define detail, right down to the horse's ~!@#$%^&*.

This reconfirms my original divvy sense as Elkington being most likely the maker.

 

Found this large 21" x 16" William Henry Jackson photo last night on my way home, 10 minutes before the thrift store closed, priced at $14.99, original frame with wood plank backing.

I like that photo. I also like the way the carpet(?) your picture has as a back ground mimics the gravel in the photo.

 

I had a very similar photo at one time. I believe it is likely Royal Gorge, Colorado. I also have a painting of nearly the exact scene somewhere.

 

That photo is gorgeous. Is the tinting a little unusual? Or perhaps I should ask, was it tinted during his lifetime, or is it a later print?
