early 1900 dresser

Any ideas about this dresser? My friend has a Stickley, and thinks this may be as well. I have had it 20 years. Came from an elderly friend who passed away.

American Oak Gentleman's dresser.
Late 1800s early 1900s.
The small cupboard area is for hats.

If you want to make it look better, Howard's Restor-A-Finish in light oak would do wonders. Then use their Feed N' Wax.

Yup, agrees with cluttered, late eastlake going into golden oak style, not Stickley or Mission style. Same time frame but different styles.

is the condition what we see or are there other issues
how will he be selling it.....?

so many factors , and each has an effect on what it could be worth...

as nice as it is.......... I'll just throw out a number that sounds reasonable....not knowing any of the above.........
$ 150 to $ 225

Other, more wise folks....may well dispute those numbers !!!!

 

I am like Komo, just guessing but I'd guess lower, $75-$125
The reason? because this was made at the turn of 20th century when eastlake was going out of fashion and age of golden oak was coming in.
Many furniture factories in the beginning had eastlake machines trying to make golden oak product so bottom line is, this furniture never developed a collector base.
I could be all wrong about this, @Ghopper1924 and @verybrad would know value better on this chest as it's not in my area of interest.

 

Komo brought up all the pertinent, unanswered questions that have to do with value.

So just eyeballing it, I'd say that, at auction, I would expect this piece to bring $50-$75. The rough-looking finish doesn't help.

If the finish were rejuvenated, then maybe $100-$125. Sad, considering that the build quality exceeds anything you could buy today for 5 times as much.

 

I like it...& I'm just an optimist ........but a harder look...& I think the hardware was swapped out at some point !!
So...you guys are much closer to the value than I was ..!!!

 

Yeah, as ghopper posted, this kind of furniture is usually very good construction and better wood than you can normally buy today unless you GET OUT YOUR POCKETBOOK!
And, it's going for a song at auction. Without a strong collector base for certain styles, antique furniture just ain't happening at the moment.

 

Thanks everyone for your input. Since it is not terribly valuable, but is very well constructed, I think I will just keep and use.
