The chair below came to me via the estate of my great uncle Wesley, who lived in Shennandoah, PA, roughly 1920s to 1970s. No idea if he bought the chair new at some point, or brought it over from Ireland when he emigrated. I would like to know the style, approx. age, and ballpark value of the chair. I am downsizing and need to know if it is firewood, yard sale, ebay, or auction house material. It is all original so far as I know, though it looks like the bottom has some extra tacks and one of the feet has been repaired.
Very art nouveau ,Id guess 1880s-1910,give or take a few years.Id also guess it is english, but others on here are far better at furniture than I am. I will say its got wonderful lines, were it mine Id keep it!
I think Johnny is right on with this. Very well could be Irish or English. Doubt it is American. Not terribly valuable but not firewood. While the upholstery is in OK condition, most would probably want to reupholster this. That affects value tremendously. I think under $100.00 most places in this condition.
Definitely not fire wood. Is there any one in the family who might want this piece as part of family history? Don't forget about nieces, nephews, or grandchildren.
It is a handsome chair. The repair on the foot will impact value too, but definitely, definitely not fire wood. Agree w/Cluttered, any family member who might want this? It is really unusual and I think has beautiful lines as was mentioned. Not the kind of thing you see every day. I think it is gorgeous.
Irish Provincial I'd say. And yes, Art Nouveau. I strongly suspect it had a footstool. I think it would sell better here than there, as it were.
I'm betting it was his mother's. That's a lady's chair if ever there was. I'd keep it in the family. The upholstry is later than the chair, my guess would be 1930s/40s; could it originally have been leather? It was made in the Arts and Crafts era, and even pieces not in that design style often ended up with some of the design elements. The leather went out of fashion and someone had it recovered, maybe.
