A friend gave me this because he knows I like old things and it was destined for the trash. It is about 12 x 15 and is framed behind glass. The embroidery is done on felt with black, white and some pink thread. It is not thin and shiny enough to be silk. Maybe wool? The mat is just some paper tape glued to the felt.

Based on the framing, I would guess this to be anywhere from the 20s-50s, though the backing paper looks more like 30s-40s (not old and cruddy enough to be 20s and not good enough looking to be 50s). There is nothing distinguishing the back and it is just sealed paper with glued packing type tape applied. There are no markings of any kind and I have not examined this out of the frame.

I know this kind of thing was particularly popular in the 20s but I think there may have been a revival of sorts post WWII. Any idea of age on this? Anything else you can tell me about it? Is it saleable or should I just use the frame for something else? Is it worth taking this from the frame to look for markings?

Not keeping this and don't want to add anything to it to sell it. Would sell as-is or pitch it and keep the frame. Have had a look at similar on ebay since posting and they don't sell much and, if they do, not for too much.

I'm going to say 1950s based on the position of the arms and the colors, but WDIK.
I think it's cute - I would put $25 on it in my store but I know you have limited space.

Id say 1950s as well, though I think the frame is older. I like it ,its very well done, but alas, that doesnt seem to matter in todays Ikea world.

I would say 1950-60's. Not a huge value.

It's pretty. I'd say throw it into the store for a while for $20 and if it doesn't sell you can always donate it somewhere. Some lady sat by the radio or TV for an awful lot of hours to make that. It seems a shame to just toss what has to be a good 20 hours' work.

Brad, Look at Wallace Nutting silhouettes before you make up your mind about what to do with it.

I think I will go ahead and put it in the shop for $24.00 and see what happens. I systematically discount older inventory so want to leave some room there to do so. Not worth listing on ebay and I don't have an immediate use for the frame. Thanks all for the input!
