78s his masters voice / columbia

    I've been gifted a collection of 78s .. the date I can see on them is 1940 and was interested to know some more info on them

    in some instances the cover art is more sought after than the album..

    Well, of course, you're right. I just "read" this as a record storage album which, although fairly utilitarian, it isn't. Assume you're referring to something more like this.

    yes of course, it's not all the artwork that's in high demand......
    but if you have the right one...........YAY !!!

    But 78's are kind of early for "art" on the cover, no? If you look at the single example Gemma has posted and assuming it's representative of the entire collection, art on the cover seems unlikely.

    From the internet:

    "In the 1930s, record companies began issuing collections of 78 rpm records by one performer or of one type of music in specially assembled albums, typically with artwork on the front cover and liner notes on the back or inside cover."
