    Bought in Egypt about 25 years ago. Every piece of metal stamped. It is 18ct, enclosed backs. Never sure if real turqouise was used. Only photo I have. Weighs 48.6gms.

    I think these type of charms in 1977 at the exhibition of King Tut, when it traveled the United States. I saw similar charms at the Louisiana Worlds' Exhibition at the Egyptian display in 1984. I didn't see any in gold or gold-tone, only in silver or silver-tone. Somewhere, I think I have one of the Nefertiti side view charms.

    This would have been VERY EXPENSIVE in gold at the exhibits!!

    I did not buy it in an exhibition. In a shop on the upper Nile. I also tested the metal in few places when I got home and it tested for 18ct.

    I think it's turquoise. I've gold bought in Egypt and went round a fair few jewellery shops in Cairo and elsewhere. Very unlikely to use glass, say, in good Egyptian gold. And it's easily enough got there.

    Thanks. I paid scrap gold price at the time, but that was paying the same price for the stones. Now a good buy. I was suprised how many people were impressed at their silver goods being weighed without knowing the price of silver.

    Agree with OBB. Looks like “Persian” turquoise to me which always looks totally different than US SW turquoise as all I’ve seen displays no matrix. Beautiful piece.

    That's not the point, sorry I wasn't clear in expressing my thoughts: These look exactly like the ones I saw in silver, even bought one. The exhibits were from Egypt and I believe the charms were too! So that was my point, that I never got around to! ;) Thanks!

    Persian it may well be, or possibly Afghan. It is indeed generally unveined and that lovely clarity. No matrix.

    I was on a cruise on the upper Nile on King Farouks old paddle steamer. We did not book up on that, but we were transferred onto it. It was fantastic. 26 people on board plus staff of course. We saw the ship passing we should have been on and they were all photographing us as we waved at them. We all felt really superior and smug. Anyway once the rest of the passengers realised I knew about the price of gold and silver, they ended up expecting me to haggle for everything for them including tee shirts etc;
