I think Af has it (there may be a cure for it - no, no, that's not nice:oops:) I think it's a plaice:)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Could be a plaice, except the fish on this dish does not have the fin along the bottom of its body as the plaice does. The plaice is one of the types of flatfish that were in the Wikipedia link I posted earlier in this thread.

Of course this dish may not be an accurate depiction of the intended fish... in that case the plaice would be a likely candidate.

Plaice has two eyes on top, as well. You know, they're born with an eye on either side and one eye migrates as the fish grows. I find it difficult to imagine an eye migrating. Sounds painful.

Much as I love to learn new things, I cannot say that I got up this morning nurturing a sole desire to discover that plaice have migrating eyes! As I have only had a half cup of coffee, I am floundering about trying to find something to do with this information. I have no doubt that the plaice considers this feat the height of effishency, but it is hard for this finless one to see the porpoise.

My wife sez I have a wandering eye. Is that the same thing?

(Not really. I love my wife.)

Not just plaice. That whole class of fish. And which eye wanders depends on the species.

Looking at the bottom fins of the fish ashtray I see two seperate fins,a pelvic fin and an anal fin, on a flounder they have a continuous fin...so not a plaice...;)
