The mixed metal item was a vase, no signature. I meant to photograph it but missed it out in the rush. Looked a lot duller in reality due to dust, mainly, and dim light.

The air rifles are .22, I looked in the loading ports, but I could not see any BSA markings although there were serial numbers

Thanks for whistling pot ID, it seems to made of a gourd or similar woody substance.
The opened up coconut I could see as some exhibit in a schoolroom display of 'Produce of the Empire'.

Thanks for all your helpful remarks.

Old man who died alone and was not found for a couple of months. The smell had pretty well cleared away by the time I got there. He was about 80. Somewhat of a recluse for years apparently. Now no known relatives or will. I'll have to wait a while while the Official Solicitor (government office that deals with intestate estates) gets my report and bid for the salable contents.
The suspense will intense for however long it takes for the matter to be settled, but due to the relatively small amount involved I doubt if it will be dragged out very long. The letting agents will of course be keen to get the place cleared and refurbished ready for tenancy so they start getting their cut of the rent again.

I like the carved coconut and agree with Brad on the other with its husk. I also like the theodolite. Nice haul. I think you earned it for the work required.

The theodolite turned out to be a Czech army portable artillery theodolite "Theodolit dělostřelecký vz. 34" presumably from WWII, (wonders of the internet age) and the curiously shaped box is in fact designed as a backpack.

It was a bit spooky to discover the bed was still warm, till I realised the electric blanket had been on for the last few months.

I'd have snatched those up too, even being able to read them. (my glasses come off in the shower and in bed; I like being able to see) Spare engineering pencil leads are always welcome. I used to check this thread but stopped getting notifications.

My best find recently is a gag gift for my BiL. He has a flock of pink plastic flamingos in his back yard, so I found him a set of these for his birthday right before Halloween. In case you're wondering, my sister likes them. http://www.amazon.com/OTC-Skel-a-flamingos-Set-of-Two/dp/B000WM8W6K

A random assortment of recent stuff.
Giant necklace - the pendant is longer than my hand.

Aynsley bone china circa 1880. Lousy bad lighting blurred shot.

Antique box with ???? Too cool to pass up at five bucks; the box is worth more.

Ivan Mosca signed low number print, at least partially hand colored. Looks better in person.

Glad to see others are having some luck finding good things. After a very slow Summer of finds I have found the second good one in two days! Picked up a Navy blue Herman Miller shell chair today at the thrift for $10.00. Here is a pic of one similar that in newer and/or has been refurbished. Mine is older and in good original condition. Apparently, this is one of the scarcer colors...... $$$$

    Hi Af,
Those drapes in your photos are interesting also. Egad, you people are getting me interested in scouring again. I need someone to hold my hand and remind me not to fall off the wagon again.

    Thanks, Sharona!

Normally we would examine an item such as this outside it's framing. But given the fact that it's framed with all it's original framing material, including label verso from the 1940s, we don't want to disturb it, giving buyers a hint of doubt that it might be a modern fake/repro. After going over the piece very carefully and researching the shop/gallery info, I'm sure it's an ink and color on paper album leaf which is very exciting news.

A similar flowers and insects leaf by this same artist just sold in Sept., 2014 for $65K at auction after only having an est of around $12K - $16K. I'm not implying this will do the same, but auction records for his authentic original works are very high, with one or the top piece fetching over $60M (million).

'Nuff - can we get a closer look at that brushwork painting? I want to get a good look at the siggie in case I run into one. Fat chance, but...

    Hi AF,
The drapes next to the big cupboard photo. The photo before the lock.
