119 Year Old Coffee Pot?

Hi All,
It seems that this was a British coffee pot, it has an inscription on it by Musgraves at no 6 Mill, Lancashire, and was presented to someone for their work at Musgraves. The date on it is 1897.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. Yes I believe it is solid silver, it has the hallmark on the bottom with the name: John Nodder & Sons, Sheffield.
...Then again, I think it may be silver plated it's Sheffield?

If you post a photo of the marks, someone can probably tell you if it is silver of not.

 

It's either pewter or silver plated, not sterling - at least not from anything you've mentioned thus far. Nodder worked in both pewter and silverplate.

There was one on ebay that looked very similar in shape, design, size, and it said it was a coffee pot, but I don't know. There is a strainer inside, against the spout.

 

The weight is 2.6 kilo (photo on the way)

 

Now y'see, that's an interesting question.
There are many variables that need to be considered before placing a value on an item can be given , with even a minor perception that it may even be in the ballpark.

 

That group of 4 letters under Sheffield is BMEP - Britannia Metal Electro Plated.

Britannia is a silver-white alloy similar to pewter (used by many of the Sheffield makers.) The nice thing is that it contains no lead and has a color of its own akin to silver so if the silver plating wears, the base metal beneath is less obvious to the eye.

I have an all-Britannia coffee and tea set made by James Dixon and Son about 1835-40, brought over in the early 1840's by a great-great grandfather. It had already been allowed to accumulate the darker patina so I have never bother to polish it.

 

So now we know its metal electro plated I wonder if it's worth anything?
