Just bought this table and wanting to see if anybody could help me date this ball claw table? It is 30 inch tall and the top is 18 x 13. What kind of wood do you think it is? What would this kind of table be used for? I hope everyone is having a great holiday!!!! TIA for all you do.

Judging by the depth, it looks to be a night stand - can't assist beyond that - sorry!

1960s nightstand from a commercial maker. Sort of country French meets Chippendale. Top looks to be a walnut veneer. I imagine the drawer front and sides are as well but the pics aren't good enough to tell. The solid parts are some kind of nondescript wood (poplar, birch, etc.) stained to match. Is it really as red as your pictures make it out to be? If so, it may be mahogany instead of walnut. Just can't tell for sure from your pictures.

Thanks for the replys. No I think it's more of a brown than a red although it does have a slight red tint. So you think no chippendale here?

It certainly has some Chippendale details but some French as well. It is a mish-mash of styles. Modern furniture makers have no compunction about style ...... leading to a lack thereof.

Those look similar but differ in the details. Note the differences in the tops, the inlay in the drawer, the supports under the drawers. May be some difference in the carving. I think these a bit nicer than yours.
