Can someone please help me date this piece?

It was given to me by a friend who was moving. I can't find any writing anywhere on it. It wasn't taken very good care of and the base is currently taken off. It had a piece of gray and white marble on the top, but was broken and it didn't make it to my house. I would appreciate any help! Thanks, Amanda

    Hi,
    Shame you let the marble go. A wonderful concoction of bees wax makes most marble repairs work. Replace it with a slab of granite, found quite reasonable at most granite places. I just bought a slab 2 feet wide and 5 foot long for 20 bucks.

    Late 19th century or very early 20th century. Likely French or Belgian. Looks like it could be of some kind of fruitwood.

    That's what I was thinking too on the age. I will look up the other info, thanks.
