19th century Victorian walnut cabinet

Hi there

I have a 19th century Victorian walnut cabinet and would like to sell it. I am not 100% sure what the asking price should. The hinges are original so I know that's a huge bonus. Please see the photos attached and offer your opinion, I would really appreciate it.

It all depends where you are. Different parts of the country will command different prices. Here in n. fla this style isnt so popular,so Id say $3-500 range.

 

Thanks for your reply. I should have said I'm in the UK. I had a similar quote actually, £400, which I though was pretty low. I thought something of this scale would be worth more

 

Value really depends on location, selling venue, and/or how much time and effort you are willing to put in to selling. For example, prices are higher at retail than at auctions or flea markets. East and West coast prices tend to be higher than the Midwest. City prices are higher than in rural areas. Individuals selling often need to accept wholesale prices if they want to sell quickly. If willing to put some time and effort into marketing and have a little luck in finding the right buyer, they may get close to retail.

Your sideboard is a nice Germanic piece but not in fashion right now. This similar and arguably nicer piece showed up in our semi-rural Midwest consignment shop where it was priced at $600.00.



After 4 months of price reductions, it did not sell. The owner relinquished it to the store and it was marked under $400.00. It was offered to me at $300.00 and I refused (have no customers for it). I believe it ended up selling just under that after about 5 months of being in the store.

Many of us here thought that $600.00 was quite reasonable but the customers here dictated otherwise. You will have to gauge your own market and decide accordingly.

 

You might wait from some of our UK members to come along but I don't think your market is all that much different than ours here in the US.

£400 sounds good to me, you'd need to get £550 at auction overall (including buyers and sellers comission) to take that much home.
