Chinese coin

    I realize this has no value. I'm just curious to know if it's a real coin. It came off one of those wicker sewing baskets that fairly reliably dates to the 1920s (give or take). One of the beaded strands broke and I photographed the coin before restringing it. I would expect a coin to be figured on both sides. I can't even figure how this thing was made. It doesn't look like it came from any kind of press.

    Yes its real.
    Heavily corroded Chinese "Cash" coin.

    This is Daoguang ้“ๅ…‰ cash. And yes, that's a common condition for these coins.

    Funny, on the Facebook London Mudlarks post today someone found a couple of those on the foreshore. It made me think of these sewing baskets because everyone had them back in the day. I still have two stashed away in the attic, Mum's and Aunt's
