Need help identifying antique Porcelain Pieces

Purchased these years ago from an estate. Was filled with fine antiques throughout and seemed to be alot from the late 1700s through 1800s period England. very fine high quality items. That said, this is what i have.

I actually have two of these decanters..one perfect and one with a rim chip. It measures about 7" tall and almost 9 with stopper inserted. The only marks I can find are as shown. There is an incised "8." under-glaze on the bottom of the decanter and the same "8." on the underside of the stopper. there is also a tiny fancy number 54 painted on both the stopper and decanter (the other one has a "56" painted on both...probably to make sure the stopper stayed matched with the decanter).

the colors are beautiful with a sort of Royal Blue and Magenta with gold leaf decorated pattern. Simple but well done.

Only other thing i will mention is though it is very subtle and smooth...I can tell where the 2 molded parts came together on the decanter. Not sure if its important.

I am pretty certain it is a hard paste porcelain...chip is extremely hard under the glaze and makes a high pitched ring when tapped with a coin or fingernail.

Anyone have any thoughts to help me identify a maker? Even just a direction to help limit search would be great. Thank you all. (also...was it designed for perfume/cologne or spirits?)

Cologne or perfume bottles?

 

I'm also leaning towards cologne bottles. Might have been part of a larger dresser set circa 1900 give or take a decade or so. I doubt English - more likely Bohemian. A firm ID is very unlikely as these items were imported by the thousands, made by different companies, and rarely had manufacturer's markings. You are quite right that the numbers are there so the stoppers and bases match up correctly. Watch the gold as it wears easily. Welcome to the boards!

Thank you all for the help. I sort of always thought they were cologne bottles but somehow thought they were a real good quality maker. Not a lot going for them decoration wise but always thought the form was interesting. Again, thank you all.
