Love the fern vase. I used to know the way to determine Consolidated from Phoenix but have forgotten. I just hardly see any of it any more. Wish I had kept some I have owned over the years.

I really like the fern vase, too, Bdigger. It looks like it's translucent?

It is thin, and light comes thru it nicely. the white ferns have a touch of irridescence to them too. the more I look at it the more I like it. Under strong light you can see a numbering on the bottom wich is 11255 over 25......I assume that

I have not seen the other side of this yet, but I'm wondering if it a Japanese mirror, and if it's any good.

I never would have even noticed there was a dresser in that room

Let's look at the blades and clock

I would have noticed, but only because of the partially open drawer.
I would want to go through those!

Af, if it were a mirror, wouldn't the figure be in the opposite orientation? Looks like a wonderful piece, whatever it is!

    Hi Brad,
I was told by a wonderful dealer of Consolidated glass. "If it has a plain background and a colored raised design it is likely Consolidated. If it has a colored background with plain raised design it is likely Phoenix."

You all have been finding some nice items.

AF, that's not a mirror,.....a bit hard to tell from the image, but I'll bet you dollars to donuts that's a Japanese Meiji Period mixed metal vase of a boy holding a bird. Some very nice metalwork in relief. Probably made for the Islamic(?) market given the boy's Turkish garb.

The probable vase does seem to have a footrim.
Any opinions on value, it's not my sort of object at all. Not saying I don't like it, just have no idea of the market. I was thinking about $50 equivalent.

Any opinions on the spike center shield would also be welcomed. It's probably repro but of what?

findssept29.jpg AF: Based on my limited experience with mixed metal, your item could sell for much more than that considering there is no major damage. It also maybe signed. I like it a lot (usually if I like something a lot it will sell well. lol bain of my existence)

My finds: The imari vase is throwing me a bit new or old? A few of the flowers are in mold, raised just a bit, hand painted. No sure if that is a new or old thing.

Little sterling cup, cloisonne belt buckle, imari dish with some damage.

AF, as far as value.....just like with any other antique it's going to be based on maker, condition etc. At the very least $50 USD. (I'll trade you that silver Spanish two handled bowl that you liked for that vase? :) )

Your shield appears to be a 19th C.(?) repro, probably made by Elkington & Co. Birmingham

Trip, your Japanese Imari hexagonal molded gourd vase is 19th C. to my eye.

Thanks for that, I'm off to have a look tomorrow and I'll get some more relevant pictures. I suspect there may be a few better things hidden away among all the clutter. Maybe you could hang on to the bowl with the absurd animal for a while, or let me know if you are selling it?

your Japanese Imari hexagonal molded gourd vase is 19th C. to my eye.

What makes this example stand out as 19th. cent. as opposed to a more recent production? What tell tale earmarks displayed in this piece should we be on the lookout for when we encounter similar items?
