Does anyone know what this is? We have 3. I don’t know what it’s made of. The weight in the centre is very heavy and it lowers and raises the basket thing on some little rollers at the top. any ideas would be highly appreciated. My husband and I were thinking maybe some kind of old candle light thing?
Interesting. Lighting, I agree, but candle lighting, not so sure. Looks like at least some parts are missing (like what should be in the big round frame?) and others perhaps misplaced or connected together in error. Might even have been "made up" with various parts of other lighting pieces.
Would have held a kerosene lamp. The 12" diameter holding the shade. The round bottom holding the font.
Yes indeed - a fancy oil lamp ceiling holding fixture - 10" shade ring? I didn't see where it was stated a 12" ring but does look bigger than 10"!
You have to pull it down to tend to the lamp. Then, when you push up on it, the weight is just enough to keep it in the raised position again.
