These items were purchased for exactly $49 (believe it or not)...

The first item I'm not sure what it is, it's age or origin. It appears to be some type of clay mold(?) in the form of a spill vase or ewer with two monkeys.

Mid-20th C. Picasso linocut (Deux Femmes) with info verso.

19th C. embroidered sampler made by a 10 yr. old.

19th C. Chinese crackle-glaze dragon bowl.

18th/19th C. Chinese gilt wood and lacquered Buddha.

18th/early-19th C. spectacles.

Some silver bought today for scrap plus 10%.
In order of my liking of it.


Monogrammed case 1936 fruit set, Sheffield, Francis Howard. Nice deco look. Quite heavy at 8 ounces plus.


Details.



Pointy spoon set (egg spoons?) 30's again.

Pair of sauceboats, Birmingham 1942, Adie bros.


And a card tray with a 1914 inscription from a golf club.

I don't get out much to buy but a runner brought these in.

 

HC is fine and busy on a FB group related to Antique Identification. I expect if someone messages her, she'll pop in.

 

No, I wish! It's a smaller version.

 

I haven't taken it out the frame as of yet, but it appears to be similar to other 19th C. examples I've handled. Why? What's-up?

 

Oh! And that unknown monkey vessel above I believe is early unglazed Japanese Banko Ware.

 

Not saying that the needlework isn't 19th c. and done by a 10 yr. old and likely is. But there are ways of making fabric look older (a dip in tea will "tone" fabric, for example) and it doesn't look very elaborate. Plus, it isn't dated (not that that's wrong, but more often than not, they're dated). HC is good with IDing vintage/antique fabrics.

Not really my area, and impossible to see the details and materials in the pics, but to my eye, especially with that wonky 'signature', it just looks very much like the numerous cottage industry 'primitive' samplers that have been all over for the last 20-25 years, slightly crude and often artificially aged (sometimes to the point that they just look filthy), some even have little fantasy stories to go with whatever name and/or date they use. Might well be wrong, but would just expect to see more of a sampling of the worker's skills, and even a ten year old in the mid-19th century would be fairly proficient at needlework...

After taking the item out its framing, both of you are correct. It's crap applied to a piece of plywood.

Finally got around to editing some photos. All are thrift store finds unless noted otherwise.

This little owl is hand carved in walnut. Looks more like an art project than an import item to me. Bought for 50 cents.


This bust of Beethoven appears to be plated pot metal. The base is marble and this is quite heavy. It was $2.00.


This acrylic ball lamp was $10.00. It is modern but oh so much in style now.


This Josef Hoffman style chair was $12.00. I had to refinish the arms and clean the upholstery but it was in pretty good shape otherwise.


These vintage fabrics were bought from another dealer for $6.00. Not large pieces but I am sure I can make use of them.


Split bamboo basket has a vinyl liner. Bought for a buck.


This little oil painting was found in the trash!


This Marzi-Remy flagon was $2.00. The Oneida silverplate box with inlaid silver design bakelite top was 75 cents.


This large painting by listed Indiana artist Bertha Hatton Duke (1890-1971) was bought at the local auction for $18.00.

 

Finally I have something to show. Nothing Spectacular, but some nice stuff for what I paid.

A Nice Phoenix Consolidate Fern Vase , 2 Royal Doulton Mugs (one Bunnykins, 1 Brambly Hedge) A Gray Potteries Copper Luster? Jug. A waterford Bear w/ Block Figurine. An Alexandrite Sleeping Cat Figurine ( I have one but decided I needed another) . And a Spatter ware type small bowl, Which I havenn't ID'D yet. All this for a total of $30! I'm Pumped! LOL!
