Featured Enamel cigarette case

    Hi all. Just got this today as a gift,theres no marks that I can find but I think its silver. There was a goldish cast to it that I thought was the base metal showing through,but it started disappearing as I polished it? Im thinking possibly Turkish,but I really dont know. It has fabulous detail,I just love it! Any input is always appreciated. PS...Its 4 x3

    I think Turkey is correct Johnny.
    It looks like the entrance to the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.

    Thanks all ! Turkish it is,and the similiar ones I saw all said plated,so its not solid i guess. But its one of the best gifts Ive gotten in a while,so Im not complaining!

    The enamel work looks Persian, but given how design styles migrate it doesn't mean much. A Turkish scene with Persian techniques could mean Israeli; Jewish immigrants could have hooked up in Israel and made it. Once WWII ended and the state of Israel formed, lots of countries in that area pushed their Jews out. It wouldn't be any surprise if two of the groups collaborated.

    I suggest you do an internet search for "Persian enamel cigarette case" and then decide if "Turkish it is."

    It is definitely Persian/Iranian minakari enamel, probably made in Isfahan.

    Iran formally Persia shares a border with Turkey.
    The reason I said the Blue Mosque is because of the colour (Blue)

    You're right, the countries share a border. But Iran and Turkey have very different cultures. In the border area live minorities like the Kurds and the Armenians, therefore mainstream Turkish and Iranian cultures do not share borders.
    Isfahan is in the cultural heartland of Iran.

    The Blue Mosque is called blue because of blue tiles on the inside. The outside is grey, like many Turkish mosques.
