    Hi,
Had the same thing with Cuban postage stamps. I had some from 1903. I posted them and within six minutes I had a stern warning from Ebay about the embargo on Cuba and it is illegal to sell Cuban stamps.

I sold some Cuban souvenirs from the pre-Castro era with no problems. I never tried stamps. It's no surprise; I get a yellow flag every time I list a WWII-era sweetheart pin with American insignia on it. It's always a warning about Nazi stuff. Since when is Army Air Corps material German????

Final update. I had the two large pieces (akimono and brush pot) valued by the Oriental art department at Bonhams. They are early 20th century Chinese, and valued at around £500 each. Unfortunately, they wouldn't take them as they fall below the minimum lot value which is £1000 per item. Oh well!

I hate to sound completely stupid. It happens.

So, no ivory of any type/age can be sold anymore in the US or am I misunderstanding? I went through some inventory a few weeks ago and discovered a much older pendant I have had for awhile with a gold ring at the top - something like this, different design:

If folks wish to see it, I'll add pictures.

    I'm with you....
I'm still not fully understanding what's ok and not.
A friend recently asked me about this as she has a scrimshaw walrus tusk she's thinking of selling so that process and where/how to sell it is in question.

I have been under the belief that if it is an antique as in 100 years old that it was ok to sell according to the federal government. Also if you could prove it was originally purchased prior to 1980 something (not sure what year. Might be 1983 as per the attached link)
What is confusing is the differences in state law. I believe California prohibits the retail sale of ivory of any kind. However, between consenting private parties it is ok. This I'm not 100% sure about.

This link mostly talks about import regulations.

I haven't finished working my way through all of this yet. Appears ok to own, just not commercially sell AFRICAN ELEPHANT ivory. Does not mention walrus or other.

An antiques dealer I know posted something on Twitter a while back, Dealers going to fairs in the USA were stopped at the airport and those with anything Ivory were given a hammer and made to smash them before they could enter the country.
I think they were being used as examples of what to expect if you try to take Ivory in to the USA, I saw the pictures and it was heartbreaking, Beautiful pieces of antique Ivory smashed to bits.

I think it was a step too far, Some were of the opinion that every one knows the score so it was their own fault.
