You have these in hand. Are you sure the lady comb is ivory and not celluloid?

My mum insists ivory (it's her collection) but I honestly wouldn't know.

The box with the ivory birds lid may be French. Possibly Dieppe. The comb looks 1920s and may be Ivorine. (Fancy name for celluloid) The elephant figure I can't date. The elephant brooch likewise. The round piece 4 inches wide, is it lid or a roundel. Quite a mixed bag.

The round piece is the lid from a pill box (we have the complete piece). The 4" is from the photo above it.

Do you have provenance to prove these are antique? Some of the pieces shown do not look more than 25 or so years old, or even newer. I'm going by the style of carving.

No, but everything is definitely pre-1947. Quite a bit of it has been in the family for 80+ years, and the rest was bought as antique in the 1960's-70's by my mother.

Do you have receipts? Ivory is so hard now with the stringent rules. So many people who have genuine antiques are unable to continue to do business.

Except for the brush pot, none at all unfortunately.

British rules are far less draconian than US rules now, although 5 years ago it was much the same in USA as here, and earlier than that I sold a lot of ivory objects on ebay to Americans.

The local laws are bad enough most dealers are just sitting on their ivory pieces. I'm not sure even antique pieces with provenance can be sold. I gave a piece away a few months ago, but don't sell any.

The elephant pin looks like a molded plastic/celluloid style the French made for years.
