Thanksgiving week, I'm going to look at some items for possible eBay auctions. But the client is an hour away, and I don't want to bring things home if they're not worthwhile. NOTE: These are not my own photos, and I apologize in advance for poor quality.

First, can anyone ID the pattern in this pair of Roseville vases, and tell me anything else about them? Age, potential value...

Next, here is an unmarked pair of vases, with decoration in relief.

Finally, here is what may be a mid-century jelly—or peanut butter—glass.

Apologies again for the poor quality of images. And heartfelt thanks in advance for any help that may be forthcoming!

The Roseville pattern is Magnolia. I have a piece that is "real" but it's one of the patterns I think looks fakey. The other vases I think are Royal Copley.

    That was fast. Thank you!
May I ask why you think Magnolia looks "fakey?"

Can anyone confirm the second pair as Royal Copley?

Good question and one I'm not sure I can answer. I think it's the way the white is applied. I believe the pattern has been faked but the original, I guess, just isn't my favorite.

Can anyone fathom why I only get email notification of replies sometimes? It's not only frustrating, it's worrisome! For example, today I received notification of only the very first reply: say_it_slowly's.

I'm not Catholic but I found this saying by Pope John Paul II to be inspirational. :)

Me too. Inspiration is something we can all use a generous dose of. Thank you for sharing it.

The Roseville vases are the Magnolia line introduced in the 1940's. It is a fairly common pattern found in blue, brown, and green with the vases pictured being blue. In my opinion eBay is one of the worst venues to sell art pottery on due to the extremely low realized prices. Some big trusted sellers like JustArtPottery get decent prices for their wares but most non-specialists get rock bottom prices. It's understandable since condition is everything with pottery and the smallest defect can mean a lot in valuation. In my estimation I'd put the value for the pair at $100-120 (retail) if they are in excellent condition. It is nice to have a pair and that adds to their appeal.

Thank you for that extremely helpful and informative input, Joe! (Was out of town or I would have responded sooner.)

New question. In the past I've done well selling by auction with low (usually $9.99) starting prices. Obviously, that would be a mistake with the Roseville vases. What would you say would be an acceptable price if I list them with BIN/Best Offer?

I've located three listings that have your exact vases. 2 sold and one currently available.

    Listing #1 - Asking $85
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROSEVILLE-M...607266?hash=item3ad250b322:g:F00AAOSw8w1X9~~N
    Listing #2 - Sold $36
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Roseville-M...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Listing #3- Sold $50 (Damaged, rim chip)
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Ros...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

For your vases I'd ask $120 or best offer for the pair and then possibly be open to a small discount if they don't sell. Be sure to talk up that they are a matching pair. Might have more success in a venue like Etsy.

Hope this helps. I've been hoarding Ohio art pottery for the past few years when I find it cheap. This is a rough time to be selling.

New question. I've brought these (big and heavy) vases home, cleaned them up and photographed them.

So far so good. I found no chips or cracks, but I did find crazing. Two examples:

NP RV 1.jpg NP RV 2.jpg NP RV 3.jpg
I imagine that this seriously lowers their value. And if so, by how much?

I also found something on the bottom that felt at first like a chip. But with scrutiny, it appears to be manufacturing related. Does it harm value also?

    As always, big thanks!

Hmmm. Here's the photo of the "flaw" on bottom:

Oh, one more question. Is there any important significance to the number "92-8" on bottom?
