I'm guessing maybe a carpenters tool box. Anyone know possible age? 001.JPG 002.JPG 003.JPG 004.JPG

It is a carpenter's toolbox komo, usually the handsaw fits in the lid, most carpenters made them themselves. I had one I used for a while, I think it was from a dockyard guy back in the 1940-50's or so ...maybe popular mechanics had the plans so quite a few got built.

Always thought it funny how people would put a lock hinge on a box then use screws on the bottom part without drilling the heads out so all you have to do is unscrew them to open it up! ;)

There were less rat a-holes around in those days and stealing a tradesman's tools hadn't yet become fashionable.

You could also just steal the whole toolbox... I think the lock was mostly to keep "Jack" from borrowing your good wood chisel and then not putting it back :)

We had a ferrier in Kentucky that used a box like this also. He traveled to all the horse farms and had his tools for the horse hooves etc in a box this size. Maybe ????
