I was sorting crates of stuff at my lock-up today.
Items from house clearances I did not know I had.

I found this small wooden sewing box which I would call a caddy.
It was black with dirt, I polished it up and the pictures appeared on the lid.
    Any ideas on age.

I also wanted something to show the size and found Wedgwood/Ronson table lighter

@Poisonivy might have seen one of these.

Looks like a portable piece - maybe for tailors who made house calls

Or so you could move to where the light was better or the fire warmer.

A bit small for house calls, its very shallow and only had about 15 buttons in it and it was full.

A little repair set. When M'Lady sat by the fire at night and darned socks or sewed on a button. I can't enlarge it to see for sure, but that looks like a darning egg next to the scissors.

Maybe @Poisonivy will have some insight. I know it is much later than the ones she restores, but it is worth a shot.:happy:

I love it. It is a child's sewing box imo. Not Anglo-Indian though.;)
I have two 1940s adult size ones, but this one looks a bit older.

I haven't seen one before but because of the size I would guess it was for a child, age is difficult but I'm thinking 1920's-40's.

Agree with the 1920s-40s date. LOVE it!
I'm trying to identify the painted items.
On the right side: a tape measure, pins, and a spool of thread.
On the left side: a thimble, a ???, and scissors.
The ??? resembles a punch needle but that seems kinda out of place...

EDIT: Maybe a depiction of a stitching awl? Not the kind for simply punching holes, but the kind that is threaded and used for punch sewing leather, etc.

If that were mine i would gently clean with mild soapy water and after it dried I would put Howard's beeswax on it . But I am not an expert.

I tried waxing but it does not look much different as it has been coated in a varnish at some time and the wax cannot penetrate the wood.
I'll leave it to the purchaser to restore.

However whilst I have plenty of time on my hands I might start on the vintage coin cabinet I bought last year.

Very nice. I've got a bureau I bought about 20 years ago that's still waiting for some attention. It's currently housing my collection of toy lead horses but would also do coins very well.. I imagine it's one of the few that are still in use as they are so out of fashion. Don't know if the 7 drawers are original or a later addition.
