Respectfully, I was not the first to suggest the '30s, though AF revised his opinion, my point was and is, that given the pertinent information available on the sign, more information than you provided was readily available, and if you are selling an item suggesting a certain age, then you should make an effort to back that up. The founding date of the company has value only in determining that it cannot date earlier than that (the exact year they started operating under the Rosser & Russell name is also easily found).

You posted your item on a site given to discussion, so there should be no surprise that opinions were given, and you had no problem in responding. My lack of personal interest in your item is of no importance, the point is, it took a very small amount of time to turn up when this firm operated at the address on the sign, and I don't think it unreasonable to suggest that you might have found that on your own. Research, and as much correct information as you can provide for your merchandise (including the material) should be a basic...

@Dragonfly The place I bought it described it as "Antique", so I knew it was a very old sign (if that wasn't obvious just at first glance). That is all I need to know about it. If you think you have proven that the information is easy to get hold of, it shows that any potential buyer will have no problem finding that information themselves, which is what they will do before they buy it. You must've been to a few auctions in your days, so I am sure you have had to do a bit of research on some things beforehand. The point is that I may not know much about the history or sentimental value of a particular item, but the person buying it will.

My job is not to convince people to buy stuff, but to tap into sentimentality by buying things that people are drawn to. I advertise it, and someone who feels strongly towards something will be reeled in.

Have you ever just "seen" something and knew instantly you wanted to buy it?

Okay, have no interest in going any further here, but my initial post was intended to give you a heads-up on the dating for your item, which was in question, I did not post a link because it opened to a PDF, which can be troublesome for some users, though I took the time to post excerpts with pertinent information. A Google search for "Rosser & Russell company history" brought up the PDF as the third result, it is from a well established site devoted to the history of building service engineers, and I will post a link to the site below. Even though your piece held no interest for me, I'm curious by nature, so did that very simple quick search to see what turned up, but apparently you really didn't care to pursue it any further since you already knew it was 'very old ' since it was sold to you as an 'antique'...

I am truly sorry that I ever looked in on this post, or made any effort to provide information, or had the irrational thought that one might like to actually have some information regarding their item. Good luck in selling this piece, feel sure it will find a buyer...

@DragonflyWink You are welcome to provide information, but snide or underhanded remarks are not.

Thank you for the information you have provided, regardless :)

Let me put it this way: My dad is even describing this as a "museum piece", so for me to be selling it for what I am is a steal any day of the week. It is surprising to me how no one has snapped it up yet. Although, I have noticed that the most relatable and generic vintage/antique signs fly off the shelves a lot faster. I mean, everyone knows what a bus stop is. I guess not everyone is interested in the history of some random company. I may have to dig a little deeper to find a buyer for this little piece, it seems.....
