Featured Flipper's gotta gun

At one of my patient's homes today, I discovered this little gem. A Colt 25 caliber gun in the original box. I do not know anything about guns, but thought this seemed really neat. So, please share your knowledge with me, and I, in turn, will share it with her. She is 80 and said it was her father's....

 

Looks like Colt Model 1908 Hammerless "Vest Pocket" type. Should have a 6 round clip in it. Made somewhere between 1908 up till around 1940's. It's missing a screw on the grip in the first picture. Could use a good cleaning and oiling.

According to that chart it is one of only 3500 made in 1931.
If I was going to carry a gun, I think I would like this one...but not for MY vest pocket, because it would fall out.

 

It has a clip in it, so use care and handle as if loaded.

Serial number places this in 1931 time-frame. Bluing has some issues and wood grips look a bit soiled. Nothing terrible.

rayo: I don't know if it ever had a screw on the grip on the side when gun is facing right. It appears to have a barrel fastener that receives the screw from the other side:

 

What is the second last number in the serial number?

 

This example has the same "missing" screw? Do you think it is really missing?

Now I see what it looks like cleaned up! The entire house needs to be cleaned and oiled...

 

That pistol would sell at a premium due to the “US Property” Mark. That means it was probably issued to a high-ranking Officer, but probably not George Patton, he wouldn’t have wanted a .25. Who was her father, a general or admiral? I suspect it is worth some thou, but I’m years out of that market.

edit: I read all this quick and now I see that the USP one is someone else’s?

I grabbed that pic to show a better shot of that side of the grip. I did read about the "US Property" as well. Some unscrupulous sellers were also adding that embellishment to add value.

I love it. I just noticed the different spelling of caliber. They use calibre. I live in the US so I guess that is why.

I actually think it would be safer for me to own a gun with a safety lock that is blunt...than to trust myself with that beautiful blade. My father did not call me "Grace" for nothin! I tend to injure myself with sharp objects...and not through purposeful self harm Thank you for thinking of me, though.

 

I personally prefer the four legged protection. no chance of shooting or stabbing yourself accidently
