gorham frame help

shalom to all!
i have recently brought this small Gorham frame (7.5 cm wide circle). It's stamped sterling has a worn Gorham hallmarks plus a B and the number 75.
It seems to be gold plated or something similar. I have looked on the net and can't find anything similar and the dates are confusing because the hallmark is well worn. The image of the hallmarks is before i cleaned the frame slighty)
its such a cute item - the glass is thick and beveled. To open the frame there is - as i call it - a "wiggly bit" that when laid flat lets you open the double sided glass frame. After cleaning I found on the bottom of the "wiggly bit" (very technical - I know! lol) a number 17. i don't know why, and this is just a gut feeling, something feels wrong with the "leg" its stands on . It's very small for the weight of the frame - I also feel that the leg slides into something (its t shaped and really the only place where i can see silver worn though - even makes it into a hanging frame. But that's just me and my imagination... lol and boy do I have one!
Any help with dates and information will be gratefully received!

Could this be a pocket watch holder ?

 

didnt think of that! There is a space of about 1.5 cm between both pieces of glass - so there would be room for one... but then again that leg... would it take the weight of a watch ? As soon i open the frame , it falls over because its not balanced...

 

Watch holders usually have some place for the stem and bow. It could hold something that could fit into it, but I am pretty sure it was not specially made for a watch.

I thought of this also. My brother had a very similar case to display my father's pocket watch. The whole watch was encased in the glass round with silver trimmed edge and latch. There was a short stand on the bottom of the holder. The only thing keeping me from saying definitely is the lack of a hook or something inside to hang the watch on.

as soon as i saw it - (online) it reminded me of a ships porthole .... and if my frame was on a ship, it would be a good reason to be slotted into something to make it stable...
as i said this not know has driven me to think up the strangest of ideas! lol
