That silver hoard? I'd say the earrings are 60s.

If you are referring to my "hoard", 1960's would fit - I THINK they belonged to a Sister-in-Law, and were probably acquired when my brother was posted to Mexico on with one delegation or another. Sometimes it is difficult for me to determine WHERE things have come from - Through the years I have "inherited" stuff from both parents (both of whom CAME with lots of stuff) and their partners as well as from my 6 brothers and their respective spouses. Such a mess that I am alomst glad that I have no one to pass it to as I probably couldn't give them a history of the stuff in any case!

    Thanks!

I tossed this nasty looking box in that "box under the basement stairs" a few YEARS ago after shaking it and not hearing any "rattles". It is in really bad, non-repairable condition.

This morning I opened it and carefully wrapped in tissue were the contents pictured. Most appear to be silver, marked Mexico, one way or the other. All of the earrings are clip-on. The largest, plain bracelet is unexpectedly light weight, possibly crafted from "hollow tube" stock?

As I start to research these pieces further I will ask for opinions on each piece, but to get me started, would you agree that this is circa 1950's?

It's hard to say how old the jewelry really is. I have one of those bumped-out rectangular earrings sitting here, just one, with post-1978 marks on it. The butterfly is a design they're still making, but it was created in the 40s at a guess. It's probably all silver but it's hard to say whodunnit or when without the marks.
The box I'm afraid is a goner. If you were to sell the pile at auction I'd leave it with the lot and include the story. It might drive the price up.[/QUOTE]

I went to a local senior center thrift yesterday on my way to the dreaded dentist. (I had reason to dread - $1500 worth going down the drain tomorrow.) But ... for the princely sum of five bucks, I scored two pieces of costume and these two. They're small, but both are probably synthetic emeralds. The bug is gold-plated sterling and the necklace is 14k new in box. Neither is a major designer but for that price who cares?

I saw this book and my alarms went off. I got it in a thrift, technically for free, as the deal was buy 2 books get one free so therefore my cost of 33cents plus tax.
It is worth about $100......... If you can get that but regardless it's a deal which I will probably hang on to since, as you may have seen in my profile, I collect kid's books with color though I go off track sometimes if the book is exceptional in black and white.

I love that version, King! It was the basis for the just-retired Sendak set for the Seattle production of the Nutcracker ballet! (Maybe you knew that?)

    Freebies!

1920s chimney pots from a house round the corner which is being renovated. The builder had left them just outside the gate, and wanted them gone. I was delighted to oblige.

    Hi OBB,
NICE!!!! I put one on my last house, no one had them. Cost me 300 bucks. Hated to leave it but It took two guys 30 mins to climb up the ladders to put it in place.

Aren't they fine? They'll get terracotta pots in them with trailing plants.

Oh, to have a bit of garden again would be heavenly.........I had to give up even my little terrace area because of possible immune issues with dirt. Can no longer even have houseplants unless they can live in plain water.........fortunately ivy lives YEARS in a bit of water - it doesn't grow, even after root development, but it stays nice and green

I'm always a sucker for these old school pendants. Lately they don't seem to sell real well.

Got the box for ten bucks. Turns out they are all defects of some sort.

This 24 gram group of parts is all 10 or 14 K.

I guess I'll make out OK.

That I got. Its actually a cutting from a plant that someone sent me as a floral tribute for a death in the family - 30 years ago. Every time it got "tired" I cut a piece and grew a new plant.
