It is a beauty, and I'm with James, it has more of a Northern (Central) European feel than French.
Typo? Early 19th?;) I would think that is 1830s. It is stunning.

Since you are in Europe what are the indicators to you that it might be 1830’s

I meant the one James posted.:) The style is German Biedermeier, which developed into a heavy style towards the middle of the 19th century. Darker woods, chunkier look. This still has a lightness to it, with that golden cherry(?) wood, and no chunky details.
As for scum's :D, I think it is Biedermeier as well, but possibly northern Germany. Maybe even Denmark, but I don't really know about Danish furniture of that period.

Could we have a full-on view of the veneer patterns on the drawer fronts, please?

  16. Sure, I took a couple straight on to see if I could get any hits off Google Image Search but to no avail, you guys were much more helpful IMG_3804_02.jpg

  17. Here's a couple more we took for @clutteredcloset49 so you guys can get a better look at the top face (we just moved into this room so it's our only piece of furniture, no judgement!) As you can see the top layer is surprisingly thin.

While we're at it, anybody have an idea of what this is worth? We paid $250, the owner was a hobby collector and did not want to part with it, but didn't have the room in his house.

Whatever it is - it is really a nice piece of furniture.
There are two types of buyers. Those buying for resale and those buying for themselves.

Value is determined by what someone is willing to pay for something they like or want.
    I think you did ok.

You have a tray of rocks! I knew you were my kind of person. I usually check on sold prices for Live auctioneer to get an idea. They are free to join. https://www.liveauctioneers.com/search/?keyword=biedermeier&sort=-relevance&status=archive
