Mystery Inlaid Dresser

Discussion in 'Furniture' started by millenial_scum1991, Mar 31, 2020.

  1. Previous owner didn't know anything about this piece, there are no identification marks anywhere on or inside.

Hoping someone here may be able to provide some insight?...

    Thanks!

    Very nice.
Can you open a drawer and take a picture of how the front of the drawer is attached to the side of the drawer, please.

    Welcome to the board.

Also, are you in the US or elsewhere. It doesn't look American.

  5. *gracefully bows* Thank you thank you.

Here's what I believe you asked for, also included is a picture of the locking mechanism and key.

We're in TX, USA. Previous owner picked it up at some sort of auction.

    Thanks for the extra pictures.
I think it is newer, but I'm not positive. A nice looking piece.

Check back tomorrow and see what the guys have to say.
People come and go at all hours.

  7. Wisdom appreciated!

At least enough culture here to value the level of time and craftsmanship involved...

Any other antique forums worth posting to?

I haven't seen anything quite like this, but it gives off a modernist mid-20th century vibe combined with more traditional elements. Looks SOLID!! :)

Hmmmm, I'll guess french because of the feet & no pulls/ handles on drawers, just keys.
A vintage version of Louis Philippe/Napoleon III style dresser, doubt it is American.

Wow that's interesting! Looks heavy! :p

  13. Well, glad I came to the right place, and happy to be able to keep a room full of experts on their toes.

Yes, @Ghopper1924 and @antidiem this baby weighs a ton, and like @James Conrad noted, requires a little bit of awkward muscle with just keys to drag open.

Credit goes to my wife for finding it, everyone loves it but none of the antique buffs in her family have been able to make heads or tails of it, I thought for sure the locking mechanism would be a dead giveaway.

Thanks again to everyone takin a stab at it!

    I have no clue! :hilarious:
I am guessing, either french louis philippe or german Biedermeier style on OP dresser. No drawer pulls, just keys to open drawers.

    Just guessing, maybe a reproduction
    I'm not the expert here.

Inside wood looks stained to give it an older look

Is the top a very thin piece? One would think an older one would be thicker.

  19. Wow, ya, not only is that flame birch pretty, but minus the legs and extra drawer it's definitely got the solid look about it.

Keyholes and legs look more Beidermeier...

I'm inclined to say Mr. @James Conrad may have already solved the style mystery.

It does look like an inspired reproduction piece @clutteredcloset49 , I'll have to open it up a little later today and take a closer look, we stayed up late last night so my wife is still sleeping next to it... You'd have to hide more money than the piece is worth inside the drawers for me to even think about disturbing her at the moment. ;)

You guys really do kick-ass! I'm impressed! Wish I had more mysteries for you to solve...
