It seems like you guys In America can pick up some good things for good prices ,

Over here in Britain its very hard to do especially for the Good stuff ,

Ever one wants a arm and a leg ,even on car boot sales and charity shops ,

The bargains are out there but very, very hard to find ,

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I agree! Bright sun makes me jumpy or anxious... grey skies are comforting, soothing. Whatever sunshine does for most people, I think I already have enough. Don't like it. In that regard, Cleveland is better than New Mexico!

We can because hardly anyone wants this stuff any more. Consequently, we also have to sell at bargain prices these days and know our markets really well. I have never seen it this bad or as competitive for customers. For every thing I buy that sells, I probably have two or three items languishing unsold at markdown prices or pulled and put in storage. While I fill my sales space out with smalls, I sell very few.

My business is based on selling cheap furniture and the occasional good find that is in demand. Of the latter, it means selling on-line since there is little demand locally for such items. The andirons are the exception since I am in Champaign-Urbana where the University of Illinois is located. They will find a local buyer at a good price. Those Ben Seibel bookends will never see the light of day in my sales space. They will go directly to ebay where there is someone who will know what they are and appreciate them. That pottery pitcher I bought will probably be a dud. I bought it mostly because I was intrigued by it, not because I thought it had good sales potential.

    I
It seems a simmiar story all over the place I only had my store since Jan this year lucky the rent cheap and don't have a big pocket so try and sell nothing over £100.00
Have a ok turn over and I'm willing to sell things less then I paid for them .

My policy is if I have anything more than 3 months in goes in the sale lot even if it means selling less they I paid for it ,

AT the moment I'm in the position it costing me nothing out of my own pocket and what I buy comes out of my taking don't really make much wage and Havre no savings ,

I also started a store on Esty in September so far its doing good ,

I've no complates I love doing I'm sure like everybody else on here,

Brad - I'd put a glass top on the table if you can. It would look better than the wood.

On another front, my "find" today was a $150 charge to an endodontist for telling my something I already knew. ...and I have to go out to yet a third dental office, who takes my insurance, to get the original problem fixed. Or as fixed as it can get, anyway. The underlying problems, MS and chronic sinusitis, will go away when they nail the coffin shut.(sigh)

It would look great but by the time I invest in a glass top, I have too much into it to make any profit. The only way glass tops on anything make any sense in this business is if you can buy a piece with a glass top cheaply enough to cannibalize it for another use. I have done that on occasion but those cases are few and far between.

The cheapest place I have found glass tops locally is Pier One. Here are their prices and they do stock them in my local store. As you can see, a 30" top that I would need for this table is $70.00. Just can't justify that.

I have frequently come across them in the past free here and there, at thrifts and at G sales cheaply and always grabbed them up.

    Brad & King -

Oh, yeah... I know of what you speak!

When DH & I were moving from CT to NH, there was a HUGE crash - followed by that very distinctive tinkling of broken glass...

One of the movers had dropped the top to a coffee table.

(In truth, it was an oval, beveled piece of glass from a FORMER coffee table, called into use over 2 antique garden stands...)

The movers immediately accepted responsibility. All their fault, etc, etc, etc.

While I am a HUGE HATER of WalMart (don't even ask!) the moving company replaced the glass @ $88 by buying a coffee table there and trashing the base...

    Hmmm...

Got this Coke pin in a box lot. Does not appear to be worth much, a few bucks at most, but I think it looks kind of cool and it will go well in my political/advertising button collection.
