I picked up this set of dessert bowls today and I noticed inside each are 3 little downward hooks. The stamps shows these were made 1914-1918. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! IMG_7976.jpg IMG_7984.jpg IMG_7976.jpg IMG_7981.jpg IMG_7972.jpg

Probably grapefruit halves - holds the bugger in place so it doesn't scoot all over the table

I thought of a orange but I'm not sure. It is only 3 1/4" across not big enough for a grapefruit. Seems fragile. I appreciate your reply though :)

    Hi,
Grapefruits are a lot bigger now a days. I have a great aunts recipe for grapefruit cake. If I used all of the juice from the original it would curl your toes. I know, I found out when i tried to make it 25 years ago. Today I have cut it down and people love it even those who don't like grapefruit.

Yep - the Bigger is Better credo that the USA seems to live by, from wine glasses to government, has even affected our fruits...................

    Hi Marie,
For you yes. When I am gone there are two people who would kill to get my recipe book. Unfortunately my other half hates those two people and she will probably throw it in the trash. I'll send it to you.

Sweet decoration, probably done by a hobbyist china painter, the blank was most likely sold as an orange cup rather than grapefruit, the segments removed and eaten with an orange spoon...
