First of all, let me say that I never, never, NEVER buy jewelry!!!

I have been wearing the same 3 bracelets and heavy gold chain, every single day, virtually FOREVER!

    (please excuse the wrinkly flesh!)]:

    So...

There I am on Sunday last, at an antiques mall with my daughter. She has just found the perfect Victorian sterling silver tea strainer for a friend's birthday...

Now, this particular antiques place generally offers a 20% buyer's discount, but only over a specific dollar amount. We were $2 short.

[Again, I NEVER look at the jewelry... (And I mean NEVER!)]

WELL, there was a display near the checkout counter, marked "Any item in this case $1" - so: I looked!

I found these 2 items, at $1 each, which ended up being completely FREE, since the 20% discount kicked in:

A pin, 1 1/4" in diameter, marked 14k (a very tiny stamp - and no other markings) on the back(!)

    and

this pretty little thing, not marked at all, that I actually like better than the pin. It measures 7/8" tall without the dangle, 1 3/8" with... I don't even know what it is!

This is undoubtedly the ONLY time I will ever post on the JEWELRY forum, but I have to admit it's kind of cool to be here!

    Good going, C!

There's something about the "clip" on the back of that last piece that is whispering "button hole" to me. Like a lapel pin?

Uh, ummm... yeah, Tyeldom, it is... It's one of the originals... from way back when...

It has stayed on my wrist thru numerous medical procedures, even those where they've asserted, "No jewelry allowed"! (2 babies and an organ transplant among them!)

    Very cool SBSVC!

Sometimes people just don't look over jewelry for markings, even people that you would think would know better!

I bought a junk jewelry lot on ebay a few weeks back for about $20 and found a 14k white gold necklace (5.1g) in it as well as pearls with a 14k clasp.

I like both your items, though I think the second one has a bit more character to it.

TieDye, I agree. It's probably just costume jewelry of some sort, but for some reason, it called to me!

I imagine that the "stones" are glass, and I doubt that I'll ever do anything with it but put it in my jewelry box (to be looked at, now & then...) but for whatever reason (a $1 price among them...) it just appealed to me!

The "clip" is a cotter pin usually made to lock rods, etc. automobile /machine parts.I think they were used in the 70/80's by crafts persons.

I think the second piece is a scarf enhancer or maybe for a string of costume pearls. She's sometimes called "German headband girl"; it's a common design and often turns up on pieces made in Germany. US makers used her a lot too. The circle pin is worth more in metal weight, but it's not nearly as attractive. I'm guessing a pawn shop would take it off your hands for $20 or thereabouts - not bad for a freebie!

    Thanks, TieDye, Hollyblue & Evelby...

They'll probably BOTH sit in my jewelry box from now till whenever, but at least DD got a delightful gift for a good friend at a great price!

You can't beat free, unless someone pays you to haul it off. That's happened to me once or twice, and Davey too.
