    No.....just an honest question !

A lot of times on this site , folks ask for help , but provide no information of what they already know about their items, that could lead us to better identify , or search or understand the history of such things.

Here , for instance, you need to help us help you.

    Where did you get these?
Are they family items, passed down from relatives ?
    Were they in old cases?
Are there any markings on the reverse ?
    What size are they ?

You've given us nothing to go on, even though there are things that you already know which may indeed help in your quest for answers.

So that said, I'm allowed , some would say forced, to ask any questions I choose in an effort to glean information that could help me help you. :)

Well I'll ask one question to start off with: Where were they found (what country, city)?

Now for some "observations" and a few questions. You might need a magnifying glass to answer at least one of these questions (the "embroidered cloth" question below).

I would be somewhat surprised if they are blood-related (closely or otherwise) what with those two very different sets of ears.

I see a ring (wedding band???) on the first fellow in the first photo. I don't see any ring on the fellow in the second photo.

What is the "embroidered cloth"? band on one wrist of the man in the second set of photos?

I don't think the second man is in his own coat (horrible fit so it might be one supplied by the photographer or by a friend).

I'm hoping others will be along to respond because now I am curious as to what can be gleaned from these two photos. ;)

Don't believe either of these men are in the category of notable. Back when, it was very very common for people (both men and women) to get their picture taken just before getting married or about to go off to war. Some men may think going off to war and getting married are one and the same. :hilarious: Also many immigrants had their pics taken to send to their families back in the old country to prove they landed safe and sound. Sometimes it was the only pic taken of them. Literally thousands of tintypes are out there of the so called common man or woman.
I think it is his shirt sleeve cuff.
With the horrible fit makes me think possibly an immigrant? He seems to be posed in an upholstered chair that is probably in an actual photography studio.

The 1st man is a bit more put together and composed. The background in the 1st pic seems to have a log house or barn on the left. with trees behind him. This pic may have been taken by a itinerant photographer at the man's farm or whatever. I doubt a photography studio would use a log building as a backdrop.

I believe he is holding a rosary wrapped around his hand.

Ladybranch (Susan), great insights on what is contained/portrayed in the photos and great insights on history of old "personal" photography. ;)
