Revisit: Chinese Seal Paste Box

Digging things out of storage...can anyone give me a time frame on this box?

 

Kangxi six-character mark in underglaze blue within a double circle and of the period (1662-1722), found on the base of a blue and white dish. Also note the firing cracks on either side of the mark that are common of the period.

 

Thanks Flipper. I could never get a time frame for this box. I bought it from an estate sale, they had it being from the 1940's I think.

 

Lovely ... is it transfer ware, then coloured? If so, about 40s I'd've thought was right. It is a sweet item.

The base with a six-character mark of Kangxi within a double ring in underglaze blue and of the period, 1662-1722.

There are transferware items which are blue and white also, though not all blue and white items are transferware and not all items are genuine. I'd recommend taking it to an appraiser if you wish to ensure if it has value or not. Though do ask if they charge first, and if so how much. Some offer their services for free, whilst others do charge, which is fair enough.

I think it is newer as well. Maybe from the 1990s.
Compare their faces with those of known older pieces, I think you will see the difference

Cute box, but I'm with blooey and cluttered, fairly recent.
It could not be less Kangxi if it tried. Dirt is generally a sign of an intentional fake, not even a replica. As cluttered pointed out, the way of painting and type of glaze is very different. Kangxi blue decorations merge with the glaze. Sloppy edges, and the 'Kangxi mark' is off centre.

It has been said often before on Antiquers and elsewhere, most Chinese imperial marks are not of the period. So please, never base your time estimate on the presence of a certain mark, consider the other signs.
