Need help with old tapestry

I purchased it here in the US. Here is a closeup of one of the gold wrapped threads.
Im pretty sure it is wrapped around silk

 

Where in the U.S.? From whom? What did they tell you about it?

It was from a estate sell around 10 years ago. I dont know much more about it. But I believe this person traveled all over collecting antiques

It's such odd lettering.

 

Am I the only one that thinks it has an oddly Art Deco feel about it? (Or Art Nouveau? I always get the two confused.)

 

(Very) simply... Art Nouveau = lots of wavy lines. Art Deco = lots of straight lines.
