Japanese Lacquerware Tea caddy, What is she doing?

    Hi all Happy Friday.
    I've had this tea caddy for several years and have wondered what this this figure is doing.I keep thinking looking at herself in a hand mirror? Also wondering if it is older than 1940's as I originally thought?

    This isn't a tea caddy - it more than likely held a stack of coasters.

    Pretty sure it isn't a hand mirror, (almost always circular) ...I've seen those things but can't recall what they are called

    I could have sworn it had tea in it when it bought it. Maybe it wasn't tea. lol

    I don't think it was for tea. I had a set of coasters in a lacquer box like this a long time ago.
